Empire Earth Wiki
Empire Earth Wiki

I've been on the wiki a few weeks now, and have a couple of things I want to bring to the community for discussion. I've highlighted the questions I want to discuss in bold below.

Disambiguation pages[]

Currently, if two units with the same name exist in Empire Earth 1 and another game, the second unit gets the game name in the title, like "Maceman (Empire Earth II)". However, the game name is not placed in the title of the Empire Earth 1 unit, which is just called "Maceman". On other wikis, there are often disambiguation pages to link to the different articles - Here is an example from the Age of Empires wiki. Should we have disambiguation articles that link to the different article pages? Should the Empire Earth articles be moved if there is another unit with the same name?

Standardize game titles in article names[]

Like I mentioned, game titles are placed in the article names, but this is done in different ways. One article is named "Barbarian (EE2)", another is named " Bow Man (Empire Earth II)". Mixing and matching is not good. Should we stick to one solution, and if so - which; full titles or abbreviations?

Spaces before parantheses or not[]

Some article titles have spaces before the game name, like "Short Sword (EE3)", others do not, like "Prophet(EE3)". Should we have spaces before the game name in the article title or not?

Redundant categories[]

I've noticed that a lot of articles have redundant categories. For example, the Cataphract is in the "Unit" category, the "Empire Earth Units" category, and the "Empire Earth: The Art of Conquest Units" category. The third category is part of the second category, which is part of the first category. On some wikis, the unit would only be placed in the third category, since it can be assumed to be in the other categories by inheritance. This makes it easier to see the units in Empire Earth which AREN'T from the expansion (since the expansion units aren't in the main Empire Earth Units category, only in its subcategory). The same goes for scenarios, buildings, etc. Should articles be removed from a category if they are also placed in a subcategory of that category?

Needs Infobox template[]

There is a category for articles that need infoboxes. Instead of applying the category to the article directly, we can make a template which places a notice/tophat in the article letting readers know that the article needs an infobox (similar to the stub notice placed by the stub template). Should we have a "Needs infobox" tophat template instead of placing the category directly on the article?

Needs image template[]

Similarly to the suggested Needs Infobox template, I suggest a "Needs Image" template (and accompanying category) for articles that don't have images, but should (image of the unit/building/technology/etc. that the article is about). Should we have a "Needs Image" tophat template?

Empires: Dawn of the Modern World[]

Currently, there is an article for the spinoff Empires: Dawn of the Modern World (with lots of red links), but no accompanying category. This makes me unsure whether we should cover the game on the wiki in the same manner as the Empire Earth games. Should we cover Empires: Dawn of the Modern World (and thus create categories and unit articles), or should we not (and thus remove the red links from the article)?

Summary[]

These are all things that I think should be standardized across the wiki. Real wiki editing is collaboration, communication, cooperation, and consensus. I'm new here, and have no desire (or ability) to try to force my decisions on anyone. So what's your opinion on any (or all) of the questions I've raised?
