The Three Kingdoms is the fifth scenario of the Korean Campaign in Empire Earth II.

Description[]

"In the wake China being driven out, the kingdoms of Paekche, Silla, and Koguryo struggle with each other, causing alliances to shift frequently. Chinese interests complicate the situation further, and Japan holds influence within the Kaya territory. War torn refugees seek sanctuary in Silla and the kingdom's population grows. But Silla's military cannot battle both Koguryo and Paekche at once. Silla must deploy its troops with discretion, or face being swallowed by its adversaries.

Bring your nation of Silla to prominence by capturing a territory from each of your neighbors, Paekche and Koguryo. Silla's resource are scarce, but you might befriend Kaya to gain access to Iron and Tin. Of course, you could try taking Kaya's wealth by force..."

Power changed hands dramatically in the centuries following the expulsion of the Yen. Overthrow and other invaders kept the region in upheaval. Eventually, three major powers arose out of the chaos. The kingdoms of Paekche, Silla, and Koguryo vied for supremacy in the region, siding with one to usurp the other, only to break that alliance later. Chinese and Japanese interests in the region complicated the struggle further.

The Silla kingdom aligned with China in order to overcome neighboring Paekche. Japan's interest in Korea was a desire for access to improved technology and resources, especially iron, which was plentiful near the lower reaches of the Naktong River. Japan gained a modicum of power in this region, influenced by the league of the Kaya states between Paekche and Silla. But in the 6th century, Silla became militarily powerful. There were several reversals in the area, ultimately driving Japan's influence entirely from the peninsula when Silla annexed the Kaya in 562.
