Russian Campaign Background

The Russian Campaign is the fourth and last campaign of Empire Earth. It is based on the fictional country Novaya Russia, and set in the near future. It is made of six scenarios and is generally considered the hardest campaign in the game. During its gameplay, you switch through the ages: Modern Age, Digital Age and Nano Age.

Campaign Description[]

"Following the collapse of the Soviet Union in the early 1990s, the proud state of Russia struggled to find its place in the new world order. But after 25 years little forward progress was made. Now, a street-wise young man named Grigor Illyanich Stoyanovich is promising to return Russia to its rightful place as a powerful and respected nation. In his heart burns the ambition to build the greatest empire ever seen on Earth."

Characters[]

Being a full story, the campaign has numerous characters, both playable and unplayable.

Scenarios[]

  • The Crocodile - Grigor evades the GRU to establish base in Volgograd, and destroys his opposition in Voronezh.
  • Novaya Russia - Grigor must fight rebels, and Western Anti-Russian coalition.
  • Changing of the Guard - Grigor must defeat a coup and pass legacy to his successor robot: Grigor II.
  • Jewel in the East - Grigor is long dead, and Grigor II leads an invasion of China.
  • A Change of Heart - Cyborg General Molotov defects to US side and tries to defeat Grigor II.
  • A Bad Case of Déjà Vu - Molly Ryan and Molotov time travel to kill Grigor II and alter the history of Novaya Russia.

Trivia[]

  • As this game was released in 2001, the Russian Campaign is entirely fictional, with key differences, mostly in 2018, where the first scenario The Crocodile begins.
    • In Grigor Stoyanovich's biography in the first scenario, The Crocodile, it is mentioned that there was food riots in 2016. By the time of the real 2016, Russia did not have any food riots.
    • In 2018, it is implied the Russian Government had long since been full of incompetent presidents, but in the real 2018, Vladimir Putin had been one of the only three presidents by this time (Boris Yeltsin and Dmitry Medvedev being the other two). The game implies that Vladimir Putin's reign did not last past the Russian Constitutional limit that would essentially have his term end in 2008, assuming he was a one-termer ending in 2004 or he was assassinated during his presidency. However, none of this is explained in any of the missions of his fate.
    • Donetsk is still under the control of Ukraine in 2016 and 2018, as the Donbass War happened 13 years after the game's release, therefore, never happening by this campaign's start date.
  • Two unnamed scenarios were cut from the Russian Campaign, but voice lines of the briefing were left in the game database.
    • The first one involves possibly taking down foreign influences and anti-Grigor Protestors within Russia before reaching Moscow. It likely takes place after The Crocodile and Novaya Russia.
    • The second one involves Molotov as a Colonel attacking Great Britain and France, likely from a conquered Germany and Norway. Given how Molotov is a Colonel in this cut scenario, it likely takes place before A Change of Heart.
