Rite of Passage is the first scenario of the Maasai Campaign in Empire Earth II: The Art of Supremacy.

Briefing[]

A pack of lions has been slaughtering the village's herd of cattle. Baridi Hatari Nyama, son of the chief, must lead a small group of young men in a rite of passage. The must eliminate the threat of the lions and discover why they are suddenly causing so much trouble.

History[]

The Maasai are a proud and fierce people located mostly in western Kenya. The Maasai are partially nomadic herders. The Maasai are a self-governing people who have survived despite incredible pressures. However, their greatest challenges remain ahead. They are losing the grazing land so precious to their cattle as it has been taken either for commercial large-scale wheat growing or other cultivation, or for wildlife conservation. Because of tighter border and territory restrictions, they are rapidly losing their ability to roam freely throughout the country. Modern schools and city developments are influencing their young people, creating inner tribal conflict. Stricter controls on law and order have reduced the warrior's role in tribal fighting and cattle-raiding, and taken power from the elders. It remains to be seen how well they continue to retain their identity.

You begin with control over Baridi and a relatively small platoon of soldiers, but you have no control over the Massai village's buildings right now. As soon as the scenario begins, the Maasai's cow herd will be repeatedly attacked by lions. The lions will attack one at a time, and will generally ignore your other units. Send your army south to the highlighted area of the map, as the game has instructed. Use the Attack-Move order so your army will continue attacking and killing the lions on sight as they make their way to the objective.

Once your army reaches the objective, it will be discovered that the Burkeneji are responsible for inciting the lions to attack. Now you must destroy the enemy camp and kill its defenders. Once this is done, the Maasai village will come under attack by Burkeneji forces. Now you must move your forces back there to neutralise the attackers. Soon after this, the Kwafi will come under attack by the Burkeneji. Defending the Kwafi is optional but strongly recommended, not only for the reward, but also because doing this will allow you to choose reinforcements in the next scenario. In order to both maximise your combat effectiveness and minimise your casualties during your defence against the Burkeneji force attacking the Kwafi, you need to time your forces' engagement with the Kwafi's engagement of the enemy attack force, attacking simultaneously. This combined assault should result in the Burkeneji being repulsed with only minor losses. Once the Kwafi have been successfully defended, they will reward you with two Self-propelled Artillery guns. These will come in very handy for destroying the enemy installations.

Once this is done, you will be instructed to locate and destroy the Burkeneji forces and installations in the area. You will need to build a sizeable military force for this. Since you do not have access to means of producing any military vehicles in this scenario, it is strongly recommended that you produce large numbers of infantry in order to overwhelm the enemy forces. If you have the Self-propelled Artillery, use it very carefully and protect it.

Since you are unable to build Houses in this scenario, you may want to capture enemy Houses to increase both morale and fervor in the territories you capture.

It turns out that the Burkeneji are being assisted by a Western-based corporation known as Globo Corp. Its forces will attack the Maasai on sight. You will need to fight through the defences of both the Burkeneji and Globo Corp in order to reach Globo Corp's area of operations. You will also have to deal with several Burkeneji outposts. The best tactic for minimising your casualties when doing this is to have Baridi take point when moving in to attack. He has high hitpoints.

The Kwafi, if they survive the initial attack on their base, will send forces to attack the Burkeneji and Globo Corp, so it may be a good idea to time your attacks with their for maximum effectiveness.

Eventually, your forces will face against a Globo Corp fortress. Use Baridi as a pointman, so he absorbs the attacks, and use the rally power if his health gets too low. This is the perfect time to use Self-propelled Artillery, providing that you have any.

When Masaai forces are deep enough into their territory, the leader of Globo Corp will escape in a helicopter. There is no way to prevent this.

Once all the Burkeneji territories have been conquered, you should send your army across the bridge, providing it is of significant size. You will need to deal with the outposts. If you have it, use the artillery for this. Destroy all the buildings within the electric fence perimeter. You also need to eliminate the Globo Corp platoon that is next to the other side of the base. A good tactic for this is to position your artillery behind the fence and have it fire on the enemy troops while your infantry attack them.

Once the Globo Corp base and its guards have been eliminated, the scenario is won.
