The Grenade Launcher is a ranged infantry unit with missile-type attack that are effective against Tanks, Artillery and to a lesser extent, buildings. They are of little to no use against any other unit they can hit. They adopt any and all vulnerabilities of Atomic Age's common infantries, including damage from Tanks which they are meant to fight against.
Because they lack AT units durability to Tank attacks, they can't really win one-on-one against Tanks and fare better acting in groups or as support fire for AT siege units.
They are succeeded by the Bazooka.
