Empire Earth Wiki

Description[]

A New Dynasty is the first scenario of the Asian Campaign in Empire Earth: The Art of Conquest.

Briefing[]

Xinhua Herald -- May 03, 2035

After a turbulent political election, a new figurehead has risen to take the leadership of what was the Republic of China. This man, Hu Kwan Do, head of the Kwan Do electronics and communications conglomerate, now finds himself on the brink of a civil war unequaled in his nations -- and perhaps all the world's -- history'.

Several radical groups wholly opposed to Kwan Do's policies fled the capitol after the election and set up or joined existing camps of outlaws and terrorists. Through coercion of the local populous, these groups have gathered enough support to wage open war against the new Dynasty.

The last three weeks have been one of intense struggle for the newly formed UFAR government. Rebel attacks and acts of terrorism have almost crippled the economic and military production of the entire country. The rebels have succeeded in stealing technologies and military hardware and are using this to their advantage.

The loss of life has been horrendous. Emperor Kwan Do has been pushed to his limits and has come to a decision, which he announced yesterday:

"For the good of the nation, this civil war must end. Violently, as violence seems to be the only language these terrorist groups understand."

Using the enormous resources of his communications empire and the many Global Satellites it has, the New Dynasty now awaits its Emperor's command to unleash the power of its might upon the rebels.

Objectives[]

° Secure the U. F. A. R. Capitol City from Rebel and Terrorist Attacks

° Protect Dr. Sung from assassination attempts

° Research and Develop a New Technology - The Extrasensory Stimulus Signal

° Use Riot Police and Military Fire-Power to eliminate two of the four rebel strongholds

° Emperor Hu Kwan Do, Chancellor Ming and the revered scientist Dr. Kwai Sung must survive.

We must effect a rescue of Dr. Sung as soon as possible.

° Use ground troops and vehicles to create an escort with which to bring Dr. Sung to the mainland.

° It is possible that the rebels have temporarily blocked Dr. Sung's passage to the City, and since we have no way to transport him either by sea or air, it might be best to give him a time until we can procure a safe means of transportation for him.

° Although there are four pockets of rebel resistance, we need only eliminate two of them to achieve victory.

° Construct a new University so that Dr. Sung may continue his research on the ESS technology, and also re-enable our ability to train more efficient military troops.

° We must get Dr. Sung safely to the University in our main base, so that he can continue his research. We must accomplish this before more assassination attempts are made in his life.

Hints[]

° As you will see, the resources you have at the beginning are few. Quickly build up a robust economy to fuel the military numbers you will need to defeat the rebels.

° Expect a hard fight at the from outset ... the rebels mean business and are desperate to end what they see as Emperor Kwan Do's tyrannical rule.

° A renowned scientist, Dr. Kwai Sung, is developing the ESS technology. Make sure that he is protected at all times.

° A large farming community sits on the northern hill in your main base, overlooking the Bo Hai Sea. Protect it, as it is your only means of feeding your troops.

° Use your satellites to scout the surrounding terrain for the rebel bases.

History[]

In the early part of the 21st Century, The People's Republic of China, felt itself threatened by several factors that it feared would lessen its standing on the world stage.

Chief among these were the rampant crime leagues that had spread throughout all of the country, the countries frightening population explosion, and finally the World Trade Organization's invitation to Taiwan, which China has always considered as a rogue province.

Added to this was the startling announcement that since the discovery of water and mineral deposits on Mars, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration had put into motion a massive Space Colonization Program that it would soon begin sending colony-building missions to the Red Planet.

The Kwan Do Corporation-- an electronics and communications powerhouse, ruled by a ruthless and ambitious line of nobles that could trace their lineage back to the Qin Dynasty --seized the opportunity to capitalize on this series of events and brought about through shady deals and rigged elections, a new Dynasty that would head the Chinese government.

This leader of this new Dynasty, Hu Kwan Do, realized that in order to compete in this new environment it must act quickly to achieve an equal level of economic and technologic stability so that China could join in this new race to colonize Mars.

Therefore, the new Chinese government, quietly and discreetly, put into motion a subtle police and military campaign, that (on the surface) seemed to be an effort to aid in the Global War on Terrorism. However, as became apparent quite early on, this campaign was more about China's growing need to provide land for its swelling population and the acquisition of resources to fuel its economic and technological needs.

As was to be expected, the enormous strain of the economic spending and an extended military action lead to intense internal tensions and reactions to these new political policies and created an atmosphere ripe for revolt and economic chaos - a classic case of the Old Order vs. the New Order.

In order to quell these internal uprisings Hu Kwan Do is forced to round up radical groups of freedom fighters and religious fanatics who feel they have been betrayed by this sudden political shift. With the proliferation of technology and weapons, these splinter groups almost tear the country apart with acts of nuclear and bio-weapon terrorism.

All through the turbulence of the election, The Kwan Do Corporation, has been working towards perfecting new technologies that will allow this new China to compete in Space Exploration. In the Early part of the 21st Century, after mineral deposits and ice were discovered on Mars, many nations began to quickly seek out cheap and effective means to rapidly increase their space exploration programs.

So, not only will the new Emperor have to deal with internal struggles, there is an outer struggle hovering on the horizon -- a struggle that will ultimately spell either doom and destruction, or a new era of supremacy and prosperity for the new United Federation of Asian Republics.

The last three weeks have been one of intense struggle for the newly formed UFAR government. Rebel attacks and acts of terrorism have almost crippled the economic and military production of the entire country. The rebels have succeeded in stealing several technologies and military hardware and are using this to their advantage.

The only hope for the UFAR is one Dr. Kwai Sung -- a brilliant, fascist-thinking genius whose expertise in biomechanics the human genetics will provide the UFAR government with the means to quell the rebel attacks ... if they can keep him alive.

Dr. Sung has been targeted for assassination on numerous occasions....

Walkthrough[]

You're immediately under attack by the rebels at the coast where Dr. Kwai Sung is researching this new mind control technology. You start off with a generously big base at the bottom and bottom right corner of the map, but due to the breakdown of China and the chaos that ensued, you are severely crippled in what types of military units you can build. Your immediate priority is to ensure that the Doctor won't die to this attack, so focus fire on the Zeus robots, while retreating your Gladiator Tanks to the back. The Doctor counts as a Strategic Hero, so fortunately you can use him to keep your Sentinel soldiers alive, tanking most of the enemy fire. Use the Tanks to pick off the enemy ground troops, and once the Zeus are gone, the Doctor will be safe. You can upgrade the Tower's range so that it'll help you fend off more attacks overall. Now the rescue mission begins.

You'll immediately notice that any means of transportation, whether that's Transport Ships or Helicopters, are unavailable for construction, forcing you to rescue the Doctor on foot. You may think that controlling the Doctor himself and the small squad protecting him will be enough, but don't be fooled by this. Attempting this strategy will result in you getting ambushed by a large group of rebels, consisting of HE Tanks, Soldiers and Machine Guns once you enter the forest just a few meters ahead, which will mow down the entire squad and make you lose the game. You'll also notice that, just like in previous campaigns, you won't be able to spend civilization points to further improve your units. Check what improvements you have and make use of it. Fighters and Cybers are your strongest units, and you also have a Population Cap upgrade bought, allowing you extra units which is always helpful.

Fortunately, you have an ace on your deck: Apollo robots. If you wish the Doctor to come to your base instead of rescuing him, a fully upgraded group of 5 Apollo robots should be more than enough to keep your entire squad alive. If you wish to follow this strategy, make sure to always keep an eye on all your units, shielding them from the incoming fire, and keep the Doctor constantly healing your Sentinels. Upgrading your units to make them more resilient (buying either hitpoints or armor, or both) shall prove very useful to wear down the enemy. Make the Gladiator Tanks retreat once they are low on health.

This does not mean that you should neglect your base, however. Shortly after the first wave of rebels attack the Doctor, more attacks will follow through. You have a small outpost in the Southwest part of the map, and it will get overrun if you leave it as is. You can take Chancellor Ming towards them, he will provide a valuable morale boost to all your troops and ensure the rebels will not come through here, as the road leads directly into your base. You also have Shock Troopers, campaign-unique units that are essentially upgraded, futuristic versions of Snipers. You only have four of them, and you cannot build anymore, so do your best to keep them alive. Also, start collecting resources as soon as possible, since you barely have any and you need to work on building defenses at once. Focus on Food first, since you'll need a lot of Citizens to get a good economy going. Have a few Minotaur robots guarding your Mills, because if they get destroyed you won't be able to build any more.

The rebels have a varied arsenal, ranging from Anti-Tank Helicopters, regular helicopters, tanks, Fighter-Bomber jets, and even nuclear bombers! But don't worry, the nuclear bombers will only attack at the very beginning of the game, so if you survive this it'll be a lot more manageable to handle future waves. Anti-Tank Helicopters will come from the North and knock on your front door, so stationing a few Skywatcher AAs or Missile Troopers here will be enough to handle them. The rebels will use a lot of infantry in general, so always having a few Furies robots shall come in very handy to deal with them.

You can use your starting army to venture towards the Doctor and attempt to rescue him, but this is not very recommended as there's many areas crawling with rebels. If the first waves of Sentinels, Zeus, Tanks and Machine Guns weren't enough to take down your army, the strategically positioned Artillery definitely will. Besides, you should explore the map before attempting any dangerous trips. Satellites are excellent scout units, as they are fast and can only be targeted by AA units or aircraft, allowing you a good enough chance to explore. The enemy bases are at the bottom left corner, top left corner, top, and one almost right next to your base, in southwest, near your Airports. By proximity, clearing this base, and the bottom left corner one are the most recommended.

If you managed to advance far enough into enemy territory, sooner or later you'll see there's a heavily fortified section protected by walls, towers, enemy units, Artillery and even Battleships, specifically at the top of the map, blocking the road towards the Doctor's compound. Even though you cannot build any ships other than Fishing Ships, fortunately you have two Battleships that you can use to support your ground units, taking care of the enemy fleet. Make sure to fully upgrade your Battleships before doing this. While you cannot build any Submarines at your Naval Yard, you're provided the option to build an Aircraft Carrier. This will be an excellent choice if you want to further support the rescue mission, as a swarm of Fighter-Bombers can sweep most ground units, and can even get rid of nearby AA guns so that your jets won't be destroyed. Use them to get rid of the Artillery units so that your ground units can safely advance. Once you get past this point and destroy the walls, the game will allow you the option to finally build Transport Ships, which you can use to take the Doctor straight into your base, rather than risk escorting him on foot and having him killed by more rebels. If you took Hu Kwan Do with your army, make sure he also gets on the ship just to be safe.

Once he's back at your base, simply build the University so he can continue researching the mind control technology. Once he finishes you'll have access to the Riot Police, a support Infantry unit that is excellent against dealing with other Infantry with their Mind Control ability. It will immobilize any enemy Infantry in a fairly big radius, also rendering them unable to attack, turning them almost literally into sitting ducks. They cannot deal with any other type of enemy units though, so they are not meant to be used as a main army, but rather a support squad that can disable infantry. As the Doctor finished his research, by now you're allowed to build more and more different types of units, and one of these include Wyvern Bombers at your Airport! Build at least 10 of them and start swarming the rebel base right next to yours, while also escorting them with a few Fighters and/or Fighter-Bombers so that they won't get destroyed. Then, use your ground army to destroy the base that is further west, northwest of your outpost, and kill all the rebels in there. You can also wait for your aircraft to refuel and attack the base with both ground and air troops to overwhelm them completely. As the two rebel bases are destroyed the rest of them will surrender, realizing they can't defeat you, and so you win the scenario.

Storyline[]

October 14th, 2035 -- Mainland of the newly established UFAR nation --

Hu Kwan Do: This situation is intolerable! Intolerable! These rebel attacks cannot continue, Chancellor! I wish you to dispatch your troops and destroy them once and for all!

Chancellor Ming: As you wish, my Khan. But will this action not be frowned upon by the United Nations?

Hu Kwan Do: Our actions are completely justifiable . . . these are terrorists we are dealing with! How can we survive as a nation, when internal strife is tearing us apart? First we take care of our own, then we will worry about the others!

Chancellor Ming: Very good, my Khan. Intelligence has indicated that there are four main strongholds of rebel resistance. If we eliminate these pockets of rebel troops, all other dissidents in the country should give up peaceably.

Hu Kwan Do: Most excellent. To aid in your endeavor, I have arranged for the great scientist, Dr. Kwai Sung to perfect his Extrasensory Stimulus Signal or ESS device . . . a sophisticated form of Mind Control, which should prove most effective in pacifying these rebel scum. I will contact you when the device has been completed.

Chancellor Ming: Look out! Suicide bomber!

A truck crashes into a nearby University, destroying it.

Across the bay, at Dr. Sung's Research facility . . .

Dr. Kwai Sung: My research on the ESS technology is almost complete . . . Now I only need to... What? We are being attacked!

Rebel Soldier: Not so fast, Doctor! What you are planning is a weapon that violates human rights laws . . . we cannot allow this!

Dr. Kwai Sung: Again we must deal with you rebels! I have no time for these interruptions!

° I must urge you to hasten the rescue of Dr. Sung. His research is vital to our success against these rebel and terrorist attacks.

Chancellor Ming: Our only means of recovering Dr. Sung safely are by escorting him with ground troops.

° We must eliminate two of the four rebel bases to achieve victory.

Chancellor Ming: Bad news, my Khan. The rebels have sabotaged our production facilities ... we can only build a few scattered units at this time...

The attacks from the rebels continue.

Chancellor Ming: Units we can build include some light aircraft and a cyber or two, but at this juncture it would be more cost effective to train infantry.

A rebel transport gets destroyed.

Chancellor Ming: Once Dr. Sung has arrived safely in our base and has been brought to the University, then perhaps he will be able to reactivate some of our unit producing facilities.

More rebels are dealt with.

An attack is made on one of the rebel bases, which is later destroyed.

Chancellor Ming: My Khan, good news! This rebel faction has been taken care of, we should expect no more resistance from them!

The troops make their way to another one of the rebel bases.

Chancellor Ming: Roadblock! We will have to eliminate these enemy forces before we can proceed to rescue Dr. Sung!

The roadblock is destroyed.

Chancellor Ming: Excellent news, my Khan . . . Our engineers were able to restore partial construction capabilities to our Docks. We may now build transports! We should build one and rescue Dr. Sung as soon as possible!

Dr. Sung boards the transport to make his escape. Followed by him getting back to the mainland.

° We must build a new University so that when we rescue Dr. Sung, he may perfect his work on the ESS technology. Dr. Sung will also help us to reactivate our military production.

° Bring Dr. Sung to the University so that he may continue his research. We must keep him safe from rebel attacks.

Dr. Sung heads to the University.

Dr. Kwai Sung: Ah! It is good to be back and working again ... soon I will have the technology perfected, that will allow us to take care of these rebels once and for all!

° A unit has been added to our build cue -- the Flame Thrower. This should aid in our struggle against the rebels. This unit may be trained at the barracks.

° A unit has been added to our build cue -- the Gladiator Tank. Train them at the Tank Factory.

° The Wyvern Bomber has been added to our build cue. We can build them at our airports.

° A unit has been added to the build cue in the Siege Factory.

Dr. Kwai Sung: It is complete! My ESS technology will now allow us to train Police in Mind Control and help us put an end to these annoying rebel attacks!

Dr. Sung's research has given us the ability to train a new unit ... The Riot Policeman. With this new unit, we may pacify large numbers of hostile infantry troops. The Riot Policemen are now available to be created at the Barracks.

Chancellor Ming: My Khan, most interesting news! The world's top aerospace experts have made the announcement that colonization of other worlds is both economically and technologically feasible. I suggest we join in this race -- once we have dealt with the rebels of course.

An attack is made on another rebel base, leading to its destruction.

Chancellor Ming: One of the rebel bases has fallen My Khan!

Hu Kwan Do: At last! The rebel forces are defeated! Now we can concentrate on more important matters -- our economy and technological research -- it is now our goal to be the first to colonize Mars. It is our destiny!

Trivia[]

  • By matching the map of this scenario with one of real-world China (see Gallery below), one can see that the former only spans a small fraction of northern Chinese landmass. Specifically, this scenario's map includes the majority of Shandong, Hebei, Shanxi provinces, and part of the Henan and Liaoning provinces.
    • This suggests the "radical groups wholly opposed to Kwan Do's policies" in Briefing did not flee far from the UFAR capitol.
    • The matching is not perfect, but can be achieved by comparing the landmarks such as the Shandong Peninsula to the east, the Bohai Sea to the northeast, and the border between North China Plain and Loess Plateau to the west.
  • The location of UFAR capital (assuming represented by player's starting Capital building) roughly corresponds to Qingdao of Shandong province. The city of Beijing, which is the real-life capital of China, is set as a rebel base to the north instead.
  • The key positions of player and enemy can also be mapped to real-world locations in this way. Referencing the zoomed-in map in the Gallery, the locations are identified as follows (in the format of "real-world location: in-game location"):
    • A. Beijing: 1 of 4 rebel bases
    • B. Qinhuangdao: rebel blockade between Dr. Sung's starting position and UFAR capital.
    • C. Dalian-Dr. Sung's starting position
    • D. possibly Xinzhou: 1 of 4 rebel bases
    • E. Shijiazhuang: a rebel stronghold near center of the map
    • F. possibly Zibo or Weifang: player's walled frontline
    • G. Yantai: player's port
    • H. Mount Tai: the major mountain to the south of the map
    • I. Qingdao: player's capital
    • J. possibly Jincheng: 1 of 4 rebel bases
    • K. Jining: 1 of 4 rebel bases
    • L. Rizhao: player's southern base
